What is SPMU?

SPMU, is semi-permanent make up. It can be used to create brows, eyeliner and lip staining. I however only offer the brow treatment.
I use a digital machine to create beautiful, long lasting brows. The area is numbed whilst we conduct a thorough consultation where I ask you many questions to get an idea of what look you would like to achieve. I then do a pre draw and show you so you can see exactly how they will look once done. Once you are completely happy with how they will be I then begin. I make a first pass with the digital needle which deposits ink into the top layer of the skin. Once the first pass is complete I renumb and then continue to add in detail where needed until complete.
I allocate 3 hours for the treatment as I like to take my time in giving you the perfect set of brows.

Where are you based?

Working by appointment only at home in Londesborough Road, Central Southsea. Close to public transport.
Upon booking your appointment online the house number shall be sent in a booking confirmation email.
Bus Routes: Number 15 stops at Jessie Road which is just off Londesborough, Number 18 stops on the nearby Fawcett Road, or number 2 or 19 stop on the infamous Albert Road, a 5 minute walk.
The nearest train station is Fratton which is roughly a 15 minute walk.

HOW TO PREP

To prep yourself for a wax it's best to have at least 3 weeks of growth since last shaving, and 4 from last waxing. If it is any longer I can easily trim the hair for you; you may take it too short doing it yourself.
 
Gently exfoliate the area the night before as this helps encourage the hairs to come out more freely when being waxed.
 
Shaved hairs are thicker, stronger, and therefore tougher to get out. After the first initial wax it is considerably easier to endure as the hairs will be finer and weaker. Over time the hairs will become extremely fine and you may even be able to go longer inbetween appointments.
If you do feel you may still want some help then you are okay to take an Ibuprofen 30 minutes before your appointment.

Wear or bring loose fitting, clean clothes to your wax appointment. You don't want anything hugging tightly against the freshly waxed skin as this will cause irritation.
 
Any fake tan will be lifted by the wax, and any make up will be wiped from the area if that is the skin you wish to target (i.e facial waxing). It's be to come au-naturelle to avoid this!
 
If you would like to freshen up before an intimate wax, complimentary wipes are supplied for you in the attached en suite. There are other toiletries in there for you to use too, including tampax should you get caught short before your intimate wax appointment.

AFTERCARE

Aftercare is extremely important to follow as it gives you incredibly smooth, gorgeousskin but it also preps you nicely for your next wax. So, to get the most out of your waxing appointments;
 
Either bring or wear loose fitting, clean clothes to your wax appointment. You don't want anything hugging tightly against the freshly waxed skin as this will cause irritation.
 
In the few days following on from your wax appointment, your pores are open so this means they are more prone to infection. This is what then goes on to cause ingrown hairs, and we all know how pesky those can be! So for the next 24-48 hours after your wax appointment it is best to avoid;
Make-up & fake tan, this will sink into the open pores
Sunbeds & sun exposure, your skin will be very sensitive and therefore burn a lot easier
Exercising, as this causes sweat and friction - get your work out in before!
Tight fitting clothing, instead make sure it's nice and loose so your skin can breathe
Touching your skin where it has been waxed, as tempting as it may be!
Baths & hot tubs as these tend to harbour bacteria
Hot showers, keep the water luke warm otherwise it will prolong the healing process
Saunas & steam rooms, let your skin settle down
Avoid swimming in chlorinated pools
Do not apply deodrants, body sprays, powders, lotions or other products other than those recommended by myself
 
Following these steps will help with the healing process however it is also best to follow certain aftercare to help prevent ingrown hairs even further. Some people are just prone to them but preventing them will help to maintain them and greatly lessen the amount that develop.

Let your skin settle down for the 3 days post wax, and then you can start to gently exfoliate the area. There are two products that I have found to work tremendously well and give amazing results, as have my clients that use also them. They are available for you to purchase here, and they are;
 
Lemon & Myrtle Anti-Bacterial Body Wash
This can be used absolutely anywhere on the body and its anti-bacterial properties work deep into the pores cleansing them thoroughly ensuring that your skin remains clear. Not only is it great to keep ingrown hairs at bay, it clears up any breakouts whether they may be on your face, chest, back, buttocks or legs. Lemon myrtle oil is scientifically proven to have 30% more anti-bacterial properties than that of tea tree oil.
This wash can also be used as a hand soap, shower wash, bubble bath, shampoo (strips any itchiness from scalp), pet shampoo (diluted, effective cleanser), on plants as a pest control, and used to wash your make up brushes. It really is stuff of wonders, and you only need a tiny amount each time!
 
Ruff Stuff Daily Body Scrub & Moisturiser
As this is daily it is so easy to introduce into your routine. Not only is this your exfoliator which takes away your dead skin cells enabling your new hairs to push through easily, it doubles up as your moisturiser too in which it keeps your skin soft and smooth so again the new growth won't cause any irritation.
Step into the shower, wash yourself with the Lemon & Myrtle soap, and the step away from the running water. Scoop up a tiny amount of scrub and gently massage in to your skin in circular motions till it starts to dissolve. Then, rinse away the excess, step out of the shower and pat yourself dry! This ensures the oil absorbs in and is not rubbed away. It is that easy!
The sugar is gentle but effective. The coconut oil is ever so nourishing - and also naturally anti-bacterial! The scrub comes in 3 delicious flavours, Peppermint, Citrus and Herbal. Not only have the essential oils been chosen for their sensational scents, they deliver a protective purpose to you, too:
 
‘Citrus Blend’ is the unmistakable smell of summer, the Amalfi coast, limoncello or good old-fashioned lemon drizzle cake. It is an uplifting and subtle mix of citrus loveliness! Question 5

What are the different styles of brows you can do?

They can be done in either hairstroke, powder or a combination of the two.
Hairstroke is putting hairstrokes through the brow to keep it natural and make it look fuller. Powder is more of the make up effect, putting colour through the whole brow. Whereas combination is a mix of the two!
 
If you haven't done much to your eyebrows before, you could always start off with HD Brows or Henna tint first so you get used to them looking done, and then you can go onto something more permanent.

Is there parking?

Yes, street parking is available most hours of the day. We are permit only between the hours of 5-7pm however permits are available to purchase at the cost of £1.50.
Alternatively there's parking at supermarket car parks near by.

Question 7

What's the difference between powder and ombre brows?

Accepted Answer

Powder brows is a colour through the whole of the brow, whereas ombre can either be faded at the front, or using two different colours going from light to dark.

Are there toilet facilities?

Yes, joined onto the back of my beauty room is a shower room with a toilet. You are welcome to use it, and there are complimentary toiletries in there especially for you to use if you should like to freshen up after traveling to me.

What's the healing like for SPMU?

Accepted Answer

They change so much within the first month! As they will scab over, they will look much darker whilst this heals. This will take between 5-10 days to fall off. Then you may find a lot of the pigment disappears, before it starts to reappear towards the end of the 4 weeks and the brow pigment looks a lot softer.
It's important to not pick the scabs off during the healing process as this will also pull out the pigment.

Does it need a top up?

After your first initial treatment you will need a top up 4 weeks later, just to touch up any of the detail.
Once this is complete, you should only need to come back every 12-18 months to refresh the pigment. This all depends on lifestyle factors as to how well the pigment holds.

Are your pets roaming free?

No, I shut my dogs away as I understand not everyone would like to meet them. My cats are sometimes wandering around but they keep themselves to themselves. No animals are allowed in the beauty room, so allergy sufferers don't have any issues when with me having treatments.

HOW TO PREP

If you would like to use your own usual application of brow make up as an example to show myself at how you like to do them then please do, if not please remove all make up from around the brow area.
 
Please refrain from applying fake tan to your face prior to any brow appointment. Not only will the tan be lifted from the wax, it also reacts with and discolours the tint; making it considerably darker than it should be.
 
It is worth looking at my Instagram Feed (link in main menu above), as there are mutliple examples of all the differing tints so you can clearly see what sets them apart. This way you can get an idea of them and what you may like to try first.

Are you mobile?

No, all treatments are done at my home beauty room. However, if you have a special event then please contact me to see if I'm available as I can travel for bridal parties, birthday parties etc.

Can it be removed?

Yes, it can be removed with many methods but I find the safest to be salt & saline which I also offer here.
If it is freshly done however I recommend waiting at least 5 weeks after your appointment as they change so much in the first month. 5 weeks gives you a chance to live with them for a week once completely healed, so you can make a better decision then.

HOW TO PREP

Please remove all eye makeup and contact lenses before coming for your lift. Contacts can be put back in half an hour after the treatment.
 
If I have not seen you for an eyelash lift before, or if it has been longer than 6 months since your last treatment, or if you have had any major changes i.e medication or pregnancy etc, then a patch test is required at least 48 hours prior to your appointment. This can be booked online, it is one of the first options you will see on the booking system. It only takes 5 minutes (if that!) so it's super easy and quick.
 
An eyelash lift does exactly what it says on the tin, it lifts the natural eyelashes up and out fanning them out beautifully. It gives your lashes a curl you didn't even know was possible, and you don't need to have naturally long eyelashes to have a lift either! What do I do if I'm running late?

You may either miss you slot, or your treatment time may be shortened. I work on time limits with specific appointment slots. Usually 5 minutes late isn't a problem as I try to allow some 'wiggle room' with appointments however I am very busy and often working with clients back to back so I have to consider this too. DIFFERENCES BETWEEN TINTS

The tints and pigments from each brand come in a variety of different shades giving people plenty of choice, these shades can also be mixed together. Not only can they be mixed together but when tinting the brow, this can also be left on for different durations until the desired effect has been achieved.
Henna brows is a completely natural tint that gives warm, earthy tones and a powdery, soft finish. It is derived from the plant known as hina, or the henna tree. The natural properties of henna help promote hair growth exponentially. It's incredibly stimulating and so if hairs are laying dormant it can encourage them to grow back through! I myself have seen my brows get fuller from use of henna tint as I overplucked my own when I was a teen!
It can even penetrate white and grey hairs that wouldn't respond to regular tint. Henna lasts 1-2 weeks on the skin and up to 8 weeks on the hair. This greatly benefits those with fairer hair. ​ The henna tint that is used for eyebrows is different to that which is used for body painting, so it does not fade to orange!

HD brows is a 7 step process that uses regular tint, which gives more of a blocky, full look. The treatment is finished with a makeup application so it's great for a night out.
The tint used lasts 1-2 weeks on the skin, and up to 4 weeks on the hair. The darker you go, the longer it lasts - however I like to build up to this and start with a natural tint on your brows. Baby steps!!!

I can also lighten the eyebrow before tinting to give a more vibrant colour. For instance, lightening dark brows before tinting them with the chestnut shade to really bring out the gorgeous, red tones from the tint.

What time should I arrive for my appointment?

I run a very organised and quite strict diary, clients are often booked back to back so you can imagine lateness can have a knock on effect to every single appointment through out the day if anyone is late. I appreciate people arriving prompt to their appointment time, it will start at the specified time; never earlier or later. As polite as being early may be, unfortunately I am appointment only therefore I do not have an open door so I can't accommodate this as there isn't space to wait in my home. I appreciate the gesture but please don't be more than 5 minutes early to your appointment.

The treatments and also what you will need to do are explained to you and it gives you an oppurtunity to ask myself any questions prior.
You complete a thorough consultation sheet and you must notify me of any changes to this at any future appointments.

At the end of the treatment I will go through the aftercare in depth for you so you are confident with what care comes after your appointment and when you should need to visit again.

PRODUCTS USED

All of the products used are of course 100% vegan & cruelty free.
I chop and change between a strip wax and a hard setting wax in all waxing treatments as they have different qualities so I choose the correct one for the area ahead. Both waxes are from the incredible, world renowned Cirepil, Perron Rigot.
I cleanse thoroughly prior, and soothe with a calming cream post treatment - both smell absolutely gorgeous, everyone always comments on them.
My strip wax is hypoallergenic as well so it is fantastic for those who have sensitive skin.
If you are still finding areas are a little too sensitive after having strip wax, then solely hot wax only can be used. As it isn't sticky it doesn't directly attach to the skin therefore no pull against it.

AFTERCARE

For the 24 hours immediately following on from your eyelash lift please avoid;
 
Heat, including hot showers, saunas, cooking over stovetops, opening hot ovens and dishwashers
Water, please avoid getting them wet at all including oils, lotions, creams, face washes, make up wipes
Side sleeping, as your eyelashes are still malleable (shape-shifting), so a side sleeper or face sleeper may notice mishapen lashes from being raised or dropped. Sleeping on your back is best.
Avoid direct sunlight right after your treatment, as this can weaken the lift lotion and fade the tint.
Avoid face washes and oil-based beauty products as this can also cause lashes to drop prematurely.
 
Organic castor oil or coconut oil may also been used 5+ weeks after your lift to condition and nourish lashes, however this will cause the lashes to drop prematurely so it must be done when they are coming to their end.

To help maintain your eyelash tint, completely avoid cleansing the area. Doing so will strip the tint. Cleanse around the area with gentle products and pat the area dry, don't rub.

WHILST YOU ARE HERE

For the lift you will be laying down with your eyes closed. A shield or rod will be glued close to your top lash line.  Different size shields and rods give different results. The smaller the shield, the more dramatic the effect. Your eyelashes will then be glued back onto the shield.
Once complete, a perming solution will be applied to the eyelashes. The duration of this varies due to hair type and desired effect. This will then be removed and a setting lotion is applied over the eyelashes for 6-10 minutes.
Once the setting lotion has processed everything including the shields is removed ready for your eyelash tint.

When tinting eyelashes Blue Black is the only shade I tend to use for lashes as it gives so much depth to them, black on its own can sometimes give out grey tones. Brown is beautiful if you would like a subtle change, and great for those with fair/red hair.
​
Whilst tinting eyelashes a barrier cream is applied under the eyes which also doubles up as a soothing eye mask - two treatments in one! The mask is enriched with nourishing shea butter, almond oil, chamomile and Vitamin E and D.

What is the difference between hot wax & strip wax?

Hot wax is spread thickly onto the skin and allowed to set slightly before it's removed quickly without any strips. The benefits include fewer in-grown hairs, less breakage and therefore longer re-growth periods. The wax also promotes skin hydration and is highly recommended for sensitive areas ie underarms and bikini.
Strip wax is recommended for larger areas/less sensitive skin like legs and arms. A thin layer of wax is applied to the skin and is then removed using a paper strip.

Tracking down eyalsh lift products that were vegan was SO difficult! Before I became a 100% vegan & cruelty free business, I had to promote myself as ethically sourced also, until I eventually found what I was looking for.
The products had to comply with my beliefs, but also give beautiful results. I was so happy once I had come across the brand that I use now.
The tint I use is from Refectocil, which is a hugely recognised brand worldwide. I find that they give brillaint long lasting results with vivid colour behind it.

AFTERCARE

Oil based products will strip the tints so check your moisturisers, make up removers, cleansers, shower gels etc. Completely avoid cleansing over the brow after you've had your tint, and use gentle products around them. Pat them dry after bathing instead of rubbing as this will also lift the tint much quicker.
 
You can always purchase a tint lock serum which has bonds that help strengthen and protect the tint if you find you keep forgetting to skirt around your brows whilst the tint is there.
 
From having your skin waxed and excess hairs tweezed, you will have open pores. For the following 24-48 hours following on from your appointment it is best to avoid make up, sunlight, fake tan, and anything that you feel will irritate the open pores as this will lead to break outs.

How long does waxing last?

Everyone has different rates of hair growth, however it's recommended to wait a minimum of 4 weeks between each treatment on any given area.

HOW TO PREP

Accepted Answer

This is a treatment which will enable you to wake up with make up! Whether you'd like a natural hair stroke effect, a full powdery ombre or a combination of the two, this will be the one for you if you'd like it to last. I use a machine (the digital method) to implant pigment into your skin in the desired effect you'd like. This will only need yearly top ups to keep it looking fresh. Just think of all the time you'd save in the mornings, and to have no worries about needing to apply make up on holiday!
The pigments come in a variety of shades so there is one for everyone.
The treatment cost includes a top up at 4 weeks. The initial treatment is essentially creating a base to work upon, at the top up we can reassess and make any changes (if any!) and finalise the brow ready for your yearly top up.
 
The consultation is thorough, and we will take our time to work together to create the brows you will love. Numbing cream is needed to be applied at least 30 mins prior to treatment, in this time we can talk it all through of what you desire and I can also draw on with a make up pencil a shape to show you, this will be my guide. Until you love the shape we create together with the pencil I will not begin. I believe brows are so important and so I want you to be madly in love with yours once they're all finished!

Does waxing hurt?

Sorry- yes! Everyone has a different pain threshold, it is similar pain to that of removing a plaster. However, the more waxing sessions you have the more your skin will adapt to tolerate the pain as the hairs become thinner, lighter and more sparse after just a few treatments. It's always best to come regularly and keep up with your aftercare inbetween appointments for a better experience. If your pain threshold is particularly low, a couple of Nurofen tablets half an hour prior to treatment tends to reduce pain.

AFTERCARE

The brows are likely to scab over, this is what we want to see. As with any scab upon healing, it will get itchy. They will get darker, they will disappear, and they will slowly fade back into the true colour of what they will be. This process is exactly what we want, and this takes around a month in total. It is then that we can top up, make small changes if you would like them and then after that it should only be yearly top ups needed from then on, thus dependant on how you care for them, lifestyle factors etc etc.

Are there any common reactions after waxing?

Yes, you might find you get some redness, bumps on the skin, or short term irritation- don’t worry it is common if you are experiencing any of these reactions. You can help prevent these reactions by having a cool shower after (must not be a hot shower after waxing!) and using non- fragranced, gentle moisturiser. Any minor reaction should subside in 24 to 48 hours. How long should my hair be for waxing?

It's best to have at least 3 weeks of growth from last shaving, and 4 weeks from last waxing. Body hairs should ideally be at least 1cm. Facial waxing is usually done every 3-4 weeks.

Many forms are to be completed, ensuring you are well for the treatment and to cover all questions you may want to ask me. Numbing cream is the first to be applied to ensure the best effect from it.
You and I will work together drawing and creating your perfect brows with a make up pencil first. Until you love the look I will not begin with the machine and pigment.

What are the differences between bikini waxes?

Basic bikini – Hair is removed from the top and the sides of the bikini area.
Advanced Bikini – Same as bikini, however just slightly further in.
Brazilian – Removes all of the hair from underneath and leaves only a strip, thumb print or small triangle of hair at the front. Hair is also completely removed from in between the buttocks.
Hollywood – Everything off!

WHAT CAN IT DO?

The A|C|C|O|R® Cosmetic Corrector is a unique plasma pen device that is your alternative to skin tightening surgery and botox.

It is a minimally invasive treatment that uses a device that delivers an ionised electric arc to the skin surface to tighten and firm it. This can treat drooping eyelids, crows feet, frown lines, pigmentation, remove skin tags, and more!

 The plasma arc very rapidly vaporises the skin in the desired location and tightens the surrounding area. This makes the results permanent, however genetic ageing will continue. The procedure is almost painless and the results are often immediately visible. A single procedure is enough to make the eyes appear more open, to firm up the eyelids and to smooth the areas of skin around the mouth and nose. There are no injections required nor is the skin cut in any way. Compared to surgery there is a significant cost saving.

The results from the treatment should last for as long as a comparable surgical procedure, in some cases a course may be advised.

A patch test and consultation is required at least 2 weeks prior to the treatment. This can be booked online by clicking the 'Book Now' button and selecting 'Plasma Pen Patch Test & Consultation'. Please allow an hour for this as I like to go over the procedure with you in great detail explaining every last bit to you, and even showing you examples pre, during and post treatment. The cost of the patch test is £25, this can be redeemed against the treatment cost if booked within 3 weeks from your patch test date. Below I have included some information to give you a small idea of what to expect but this is explained further in the consultation.

Question 41

Do I have to remove my underwear?

Although it is a little bit like wearing your hat to the hairdressers, I am happy for you to wear your own 'waxing thong' for your intimate wax AS LONG as it is a couple of sizes bigger so it can be easily moved around. It is entirely up to you as to whether you would like to wear it or not. Waxing without one is a little easier however I want you to feel completely comfortable.
I used to supply disposable G-strings however I am trying to be more eco as a business and cut down on my plastic so I decided to stop offering them. Please ensure if you would like to still wear underwear that you also keep it clean if changing into it when here at your appointment, and that you have a clean pair of pants to change into after.

Can I still wax when on my period?

Of course! It will be a little more sensitive when you are on your period, & a few days either side. If bikini waxing, you will need to wear a freshly changed tampon before treatment. I supply these for you in the en suite loo which you are welcome to use to also freshen up should you forget to bring any.

​The treatment itself is relatively uncomfortable, depending on your tolerance to pain. The plasma arc produces a stinging feeling once in contact with the skin. An anesthetic cream is used to numb the area before the treatment starts, to reduce such sensations.
Immediately after the procedure the treated area may feel tender with slight burning and tingling sensations, but this should only last for a few hours. Following on from this expect it to progress into some swelling, redness and mild discomfort in the treated area which would last for a few days to a week. Swelling is most likely and most common in the surrounding eye area. A lot of people plan this for when they have time off work as you aren't looking your best self!

The formation of brown or black crusts/scabs on the skin surface will occur. Do not pick them, it is important they are left to heal without any interference – these crusts will fall off in a few days.
There are certain things that you can do to help speed the healing process and recovery but we can go through this in your consult.

How long will the waxed area be hair free?

You may notice a small amount of growth after a week or so. It can take up to 4-6 treatments to 'train' your hair into a growth cycle that gives best results. I recommend waxing every 4 weeks to maintain your smooth appearance and keeping up with your aftercare which can be found here.(javascript:void(0))

I've had a tint/eyelash lift before, do I still need a patch test?"

Accepted Answer

Yes, if I have not seen you before for either treatments, or if you haven't had them for over 6 months, or if you've had any significant changes ie. medication, pregnancy etc, then you will need to be retested. A patch test needs to be done at least 48 hours prior to treatment to ensure that there are no adverse reactions to any of the ingredients used.
 
Please note that although we complete a patch test, a reaction can still occur at any time.

Do I need to take my make up off before coming for an eye treatment?

Yes, it would be best for you to take any eye make up off prior to your appointment, however if you are in a rush I can supply remover for you.

Can I wear my contact lenses?

It's best to take these out, as if there were to be any solution that gets into your eye it would be extremley difficult to cleanse and remove this completely. They can be put back in half an hour after your treatment.

A common reaction is to experience redness after waxing. This will go down after a couple of hours usually and I use soothing products post all treatments to help speed up the calming process.
If you have booked in for facial waxing you shouldn't apply make up for the first 24 hours. If you would like to cover any redness up, a little bit of mineral makeup or tinted moisturiser is best if you really can't wait for it to settle back down.
